President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will take over the Presidency of Mexico following one of the most deadly years of drug violence in the country’s history. He will inherit a military and populace frustrated with a lack of progress to quell illicit drug production or the killing it has fueled. Mexico and the United States are both motivated to reduce drug related violence in Mexico yet our partnership is strained under the current political climate. This video (from 2013) outlines some of the strategies that have historically and still come up short - and why our countries should consider piloting innovative solutions.
